Rev. Dr. Melvin D. Bishop
Melvin D. Bishop was born in Birmingham, Alabama, the seventh of eleven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bishop, Jr. He was educated in the Birmingham City School System and continued his education at Birmingham Southern College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His Theological education was received at Birmingham Baptist Bible College, Birmingham Theological Seminary and Trinity Theological Seminary. He has been preaching forty-eight years.
In December 2013, he became a Certified Dean of Christian Education by the Division of Christian Education Accreditation and Credentials of the Sunday School Publishing Board. He is certified Chaplain by the State of Alabama Department of Public Safety, member of the Birmingham Metro Baptist Association,

Birmingham, Alabama. His pastoral ministry includes the New Morning Star Baptist Church, Demopolis, the Lily Baptist Church, Birmingham, the historic New Hope Baptist Church, Jacksonville, the First Missionary Baptist Church, Bessemer and for the past seventeen years he has served as Pastor and Founder of the New Light Baptist Church, Bessemer. His travels include Jerusalem (Holy Land), Israel, Rome, Italy and Paris, France. He is married to Jacqueline Greer Bishop for thirty-five years and they have one son, Marcus Dewayne.
